Geetmala songs

August 23, 2008 · By Nivedita · Filed Under Coffee Talk, spiceradio tadka maar ke · 3 Comments

It turned out to be a beautiful day today. The sky was overcast, what with the effect of Fay on us.  I love cloudy days. I looked outside as I sipped my morning cuppa java. "Hmm… lets do something different on my show today," I thought. Instead of  the usual theme-related songs today, why not play some of my own favorite songs?

No research required for that, as I have to do with my "theme" related shows. Nice and easy! So I enjoyed another steaming cup of coffee as I quickly jotted down the names of the songs for the show today. The drive to the studio was pleasant, too.

We played some of my favorite songs and it turned out that quite a few people enjoyed my selections. Thank you dear listeners for your words of encouragement. One special listener, Moni, called to say she loved the song selection and that it had made her day. Made her day? I think she made my day! Sometimes its the pats on the back we get that go a long way. On the flip side, I have heard people say that "it can’t be too hard" to play a few songs. Yep, seems like that, but believe me, without the help of the screeners and technical support, it can be hard. Like any other job, you face problems and this one is no different.

I continue to love the show, it is as addicting as it is relaxing. So many captivating songs to play, so little time. The adrenaline rush is just incredible and the responses, gratifying. Stay tuned to "Spice Geetmala" and join me next week for another nostalgic trip down memory lane…

Positive attitude

Does it make a difference in your lives to have a positive attitude? Does a smile make someone’s day? Or a hug? Will it really make the other person feel "loved’ and "wanted"?

I have always wondered about all the " nasty" people I come across in my day-to-day life. Why is it so hard to make another person smile? Or just say a kind word? People often tell me that "Oh honey, I have problems in my life!" Like I don’t have any? or " Your husband must be nice!" Don’t tell me about "fairy-tale marriages," we all have our shares of ups and downs. And yeah, I have heard about the other lame excuses like "mood swings."Right, like I don’t have PMS ( not to mention that it WOULD have been nice that way!).

So then why do we just feel we have the right to ruin another person’s day, just because ours was ruined? Does being nasty make us feel good? Is that possible? Do people actually feel good when they make others uncomfortable, sad, or sick? What do you think?

Today, I gave a hug to a client’s daughter who knows that her mother is "actively dying." And it was so therapeutic for her that she cried. And anyone who knows me well knows that I hate hugs, but I must tell you it did feel good. Cathartic for her and gave me the "feel good" glow on my face.

I keep telling my kids that regardless of what you achieve academically, you have to be a good human being first. Someone people feel good to be associated with. Somebody people want to let their hair down with and vent if they have to. It just hurts me to see people with attitude, a negative one, that is. I have a neat story that I’d love to share with you. I had a colleague who just hated me ( why? don’t ask me!). I always greeted her every morning, hoping she would be nice to me one day. I returned her frowns with smiles. And lo and behold, one day, she finally asked me why I was so nice to her when she was so mean to me. I had no answer for her, but from that day onwards, we became good friends.

So believe in yourself! If the path is rocky, it will become smoother after a while. After all, who will be able to resist a winning smile over and over again? My so-called "enemy" could not!

Hello listeners!

I just wanted to thank all of you who tune in so religiously to my program every weekend between 10 and 11AM! Its "you" who make us click and of course without your love and support , the program wouldn’t be where it is now.

So we have a dashing new name for my program: Spice Geetmala. I really dig this name. Reminds me of the good times growing up and listening to Ameen SayaniJi’s Binaca Geetmala. We were glued to our radios listening to this broadcast, every Wednesday night! I was so young, but followed what my siblings did and since they loved it, yeah baby, I was in the groove with them! Although Ameen Ji is a hard act to follow, he is a great ‘role model’ for all us RJ’s here at Spice Radio.

Hope all of you like this name as well; we will continue our with our "theme" series for a while, because I get so many requests for that. Any other suggestions? Would love to hear from you!

This is what gets my adrenaline flowing, l love this and truly think Spice Radio is one of the best things that has happened to Atlanta in a very long time!

Take care of yourselves and each other!

Best wishes and happy listening!

Nivedita
