Goodbye Spice Radio!
I totally agree with Umah’s thoughts! All of us who were a part of the Spice Radio family, echo the same sentiments .It had become a habit! Don’t they say old habits die hard?
Doing all the research for the show a couple of days before and then getting up early Saturday mornings all "charged up" to present the show had become a routine for me.Always wondering, if the listeners would like the show or what kind of comments would come my way today! Or how can I make it better?
It was like being in the seventh heaven when a listener would call in or write to say how they enjoyed the show or how they could relate to the songs. And of course for some of us who were there with Spice Radio from the beginning, how we saw this Radio Station blossom! Every time someone had a new idea, our faces would "light"up.And Mark was never afraid to say no.He always goaded us for more and encouraged to come up with new ideas.
Like they say, all good things must come to an end, this one has. Saturday mornings will never be the same for me ,what without" Spice Geetmala"! However, the optimist that I am, I am sure something better will come our way. I would just like to thank Mark for giving Atlantans a great Radio Station with some great programs and woh bhi, "tadka maar ke"!
Obituary: Spice Radio Atlanta
This is sad. I’m writing an obituary for Spice Radio. Born Jan 2008. Died Oct 8, 2008 . It was an absolute pleasure to have worked with Mark Premji and his lovely wife Karima. Spice Radio was a small community radio station just for the Desis of Atlanta, located at Global Mall, a mall always thriving with Indian businesses, weddings, birthdays, Bollywood dancing competitions and lots more.
For me, it was place to interview Atlanta’s personalities, that was my tag line, Now its gone. Sob! The other excuse, to thread my eyebrows for only $6. Before that, I used to pay $12. But it will not stop me from driving all the way to the Global Mall once a month to say hello to Mark and still say tadka marke. Even though I hardly said it on the Umah Menon Show, but I shall continue to mutter it under my breathe.
I met marvellous people, the movers and shakers of the thriving Desi community, Like Shiv Agarwal, Dr. Narsi Narasimhan, Imran Surani, Sultan Kurani, Subash Razdan, Jitu Patel, Mohan Kapur, Dr. Ash Thakker and lots more. They were inspiring, dedicated to the Desi community and so very nice.
Thank you Spice Radio for giving my first and only job since I moved here. Now its back to square one, looking for a job in this economic crisis.
I shall miss you dearly.

Spice Geetmala
Hello listeners!
I just wanted to thank all of you who tune in so religiously to my program every weekend between 10 and 11AM! Its "you" who make us click and of course without your love and support , the program wouldn’t be where it is now.
So we have a dashing new name for my program: Spice Geetmala. I really dig this name. Reminds me of the good times growing up and listening to Ameen SayaniJi’s Binaca Geetmala. We were glued to our radios listening to this broadcast, every Wednesday night! I was so young, but followed what my siblings did and since they loved it, yeah baby, I was in the groove with them! Although Ameen Ji is a hard act to follow, he is a great ‘role model’ for all us RJ’s here at Spice Radio.
Hope all of you like this name as well; we will continue our with our "theme" series for a while, because I get so many requests for that. Any other suggestions? Would love to hear from you!
This is what gets my adrenaline flowing, l love this and truly think Spice Radio is one of the best things that has happened to Atlanta in a very long time!
Take care of yourselves and each other!
Best wishes and happy listening!

Guns N’ Roses to release “Chinese Democracy”

Guns N Roses, the legendary band of the 90’s, seemed to have faded into the dust after all of its members left leaving Axl Rose as the bands sole survivor. But now Axl has revived the band by recruiting a whole new line of artists to continue on the Guns n’ Roses legacy. With these new players the band has reportedly finished working on their new album ‘Chinese Democracy’. The last time GNR released an Album was 15 years ago when the band still consisted of Slash and the rest of the original GNR members.
The Album is reported to have cost a total of $13 million USD, the most ever spent on one album. Also Rock Band has decided to add “Shackler’s Revenge”, a song from the album, to the playlist for their sequel game Rock Band 2. The album is 15 years in the making and has everyone excited for its release. Dr. Pepper is so giddy that the soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to “everyone in America” if “Chinese Democracy” arrives anytime during the year of 2008.
So what can be expected? Axl has a set of amazing players from different genres backing him up and they have all worked very hard on this album. Chinese Democracy is going to showcase the new bands diversity and could be one the greatest albums of the year.
